Bumper Bargain? Bumper damage? ~ Tesco-Complaint

Bumper Bargain? Bumper damage?

A few weeks ago a trolley collector at Tesco damaged my car with a line of trolleys, saw the damage (albeit minor) and continued on his way. I was in my car at the time; when I got out and called to him, he immediately replied that he'd "never touched it" (how did he know what I wanted then?) and then was very aggressive, shouting at me that it was my fault and coming to the conclusion that I had rolled into his line of trolleys (rolled sideways? after he had first denied any collision).

Luckily another witness had seen him check the side of my car for damage so I had back up. However when he went to get the manager who I assumed would be apologetic, he was just as rude, and refused to acknowledge that any damage had been caused.

Once we brought a trolley over to my car and demonstrated that the scratch had in fact been caused by the trolleys, he still did not apologise on behalf of the other employee, or Tesco, nor did his attitude towards me change. Throughout the conversation he was incredibly rude, and acted as if I had done something. I could go on! I then complained to Tesco about the attitude of these two men, not the damage to the vehicle itself (my car is old, and had the first man apologised, or acknowledged fault I would happily have accepted the 'bumper restore' I was finally offered after half an hour of questioning).

Their only response is that the manager did not record the incident, or has lost the incident form, so it is not in their database, so they cannot 'take my complaint further'. It is no surprise that the manager has 'lost' the vehicle incident form, given his attitude on the day, but I don't see why they need that form to uphold a complaint about the behaviour of 2 of the staff. What they have told me to do, with again no apology for losing the incident form, is go back and make another complaint in store. After the aggressive and hostile attitude of the two men in question, do they really think I am going to go back, and complain to their faces???

Please read the sign in the car park about damages, even if they said they did it, they dont have to do anything about it.

like i said, i'm not complaining about the damage, i'm complaining about the aggressive/hostile behaviour of the staff

'another witness' was sitting in your car with you I suppose? And if your car was going past the trolleys, you wouldn't need to 'turn sideways'; you would only need to move very slightly to the side at which the trolleys were passing. Let's face it - YOU weren't paying attention and were to blame for your own car getting scratched and the Store Manager knew this. So please, for the love of God, do shut up, saddo.

Anonymous said...

Woah there genius, steady on.
a) No I was alone, the witness was stood next to his own car, while he had a cigarette before getting into his own car, parked next to mine.
b) You've quoted me as saying "turn sideways" which I didn't say so not sure what your point is. I was sat in my car but not driving anywhere, I'd agree that if I was in motion I may have been able to move out of the way had I known that the trolley man was going to scratch the back of my car?? But I wasn't moving so that would be irrelevant wouldn't it? So next time you're sat in a stationary car and someone scratches it/bumps it, that would be you not paying attention would it?
c) Let's face it - YOU weren't paying attention
d) Try reading it properly next time so you look like less of an idiot.

I agree

To the person that posted the first comment: The fact that there may be disclaimer signs saying that vehicles are left at the owners risk and Tesco is not responsible for damage/theft, is completely irrelevant if the vehicle was damaged by a Tesco employee. The disclaimer is referring to incidents caused by third parties.

It is about time tesco started charging a £1.00 deposit on trolleys, that way less damaged will occur to customers cars being hit by trolleys that have been left lying around by lazy customers who do not return them. COME ON TESCO GET YOUR FINGER OUT BEFORE WE ALL START GOING TO MORRISONS! OH AND MORRISONS HAVE MORE CHOICE NOW SO IT MIGHT NOT BE A BAD IDEA!

Anonymous said...

Please please please please please do go to morrisons!!!!!!

What you do is to start a claim in what used to be called the Small Claims Court:
http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm

Works pretty well and is cheap.

I susopect Tesco are payibng some brain dead cant get ajob anywhere else £5.60p/h to police this blogg and put commenst in like the first one. as another person has pointed ouit , the notice in law means absolutely nothing. I mean to that effect they could put, if you are attacked by one of our employees or called a "fat poof we will not be responsible". I think the law will disagree with the scum at Tescos ! Please posta dwescription iof this manager, myself and some friends will teach him and the trolly oik some manners.

I wouldn't say Tescos is any worse than any other store, in this regard. I'd believe this website more if it wasn't purely "lets hate tescos".

Anonymous said...

Actually Tesco don't even own the carparks they are owned privatly and as you said your car was old and probably filled with scratches and dents already caused by your bad parking so the manager couldn't see anything different - if you took this to court the judge would just laugh and say its pathetic.

Blatant act of criminal damage, should have called police and have trolley man arrested.

How Tesco treats their employees that`s a very good question. According to their spots Every Little Helps they should be the most perfect company in the world. But I need to say NO!! I`ve been employed by Tesco since June 2010 and for whole this time every day I keep asking me the same question: Why in 21st Century in UK - country of law and equality such big employer as Tesco can rip their employees without punishment for that????????????? Someone should start talking, people can`t be afraid!!!

Simply, we need to start from the beginning when they give you contract to sign and you supposed to work 36.5 hours and during 9 hours shift you will have 1.5 hours break. That`s just in your dreams!! When you do 9 hours shift you just have a chance to have 0.5 hour break and just if you lucky enough because you have so many things to do and other people have priority before you.

But the most annoying and depressing thing is when you work and you don`t know how much you earn. So many people will ask why you don`t know?? But answer is simple you signed contract with hourly wages but since they finally started paying you they didn`t even bother to send your payslips. That`s might sound funny but believe me when you are in this situation nothing seems to be funny. Depressed employee tries to phone Personnel Manager and ask where our payslips are? She seems to be surprised we haven`t received them. She doesn`t even care about them and about our physical health. So many times I`ve heard "This is not my problem" or "I don`t have a time for this conversation".

So please can someone tell me why hard-working employees are treated like that?? We do have right to get our payslips because it`s illegal behaviour not getting them. I saw on your website someone complained about P45 and missing payments. I know this fight must be hard for this person but apart from him there is so many other people who try to fight and try to implement our rights but unsuccessfully. So maybe you can help us???

If you have any questions please don`t hesitate to ask.
Best regards
Depressed

I have lost faith in Tesco's -- all because of a store manager I used to work for a few years ago later the store closed down more than 8 years ago -- what a shock to learn what this particular store manager did to me after the store closed down -- what a shock -- biggest shock of my life -- I am deeply hurt and angry because of this particular store manager. They say Every Little Helps - Obviously, this particular store manager doesn't appreciate the meaning of the word.

To whom it concerns,

First of all I think you should understand that the whole thing is concerned with a customer’s dignity and means a great deal to me.

It started with the automated payment machine in Tesco. I went there to buy orange juice just before it closed last night and when I arrived home I found I should have 5 more pound in my wallet. I couldn’t believe I didn’t take all my change from the payment machine because if I have done so the machine should have reminded me in some way. The next day I woke up to rush into Tesco and found the 5 pound note still lying in that machine. Due to the fact that Tesco has different kinds of payment machines in different shops, I just took the coin without noticing that there’s a five pound note coming from below. When I was about to take my money back, a worker saw me and took the money from my hand quickly. I’m not angry at her at all because it’s a very right and responsible thing to do. If I was that worker I would have thought she had taken other people’s money too.

What really makes me angry is that the manager refused to listen to my explanations, refused to see my receipt, and didn't bother herself to check the CCTV which could prove everything I say. Instead of so many things she could do for a customer, the manager just called the guard who pushed me out violently and called me a thief. I don't know if that's just because I'm a Chinese! The manager probably was very pround of herself for dealing with problems so quickly and efficiently.

I was standing outside the door for a whole minute and still couldn’t believe that I was called a THIEF. All my life I’m trying my best to be an honest person and that's part of the reason why I choose to study in Britain, which, in my opinion, is a very honest country. The word ‘THIEF’ really hurt me because it’s a VERY VERY serious word to any honest person. I’m not writing the email for the 5 pound note; I’m writing for my personality and dignity. Please make sure the next time your workers call a customer 'THIEF' so casually, they at least bother to check and have the proof if she or he is really a thief!!!!!!!!!!

What’s more important, I’m writing this letter for the sake of all customers of Tesco. Since the only master of my 5 pound note was called a thief and pushed out of the shop by your worker, my money seems to have left there forever. What I really want to question is what has really happened to the money like my 5 pound note! Do the workers of Tesco really endeavour to return the money to the custumers? You don't even care to check if the custumers have left anything there, do you? Otherwise, my money couldn't still lie there till the next day.

Tesco, you called me a thief bacause you thought I took other people’s money; if you just take the money into your own pocket without caring to give them back to the customers, WHAT SHOULD YOU CALL YOURSELF?

Best wishes,

An Honest Customer of Tesco

P.S. If you Tesco doubt anything I say, you can just check the CCTV of the Tesco Metro in the citycenter of Liverpool in 15th and 16th January 2011.

Not for the first time I have cause tom complain. I was sent vouchers to obtain goods and tried in vain to use them when clearly I could. I am not in the best of health and to in and fro in from your place is sometrhing i have better things to do. Whats the point of giving vouchers if your machine doesnt accept them. I will have to rethink my strategy in future and use other outlets for which there are plenty and less tiresome

Can't believe this,but was visiting
my mum when home delivery from tesco
arrived,
18 carrier bags for £35 worth of
shopping,pack of sausages in one,
tub of butter in another,etc.
What an utter disgrace, after all the
publicity and effort people are
making about trying to help the
enviroment.
Bio-degradable or not these bags
don't just disappear!
Will look a bit more into this,
because utterly fed up of tesco's
and other stores,large companies
attitudes to alot of things in our
society.

This is a complaints forum, if you're offended by complaints, don't read them. Tesco isn't perfect. So all you pro-tesco activists out there, please follow the following instructions to live a purely tesco-full life:
1) Make yourselves up a playlist of tesco ads. (Excluding the 'suprising ding' ending ads. The tesco theme is essential.)
2) Emmerse yourselves in a bath of value range sausage rolls.
3) Self-tattoo 'every little helps' on your chests with a hot biro. (For those unsatisfied, you can go further by adding a red circle with 'Free****' written in the centre).
4) Finally and by FAR most importantly, SHUT UP you ignorant crapcakes!

Tesco is becoming too powerful. They have basically mind controlled two mates of mine. There lives are being consumed by the corporation and they're becoming very unsociable. There are 3 Tesco stores in the small town I live in.

As they Expand, they become more powerful and the prices keep on rising.

£2.00 Meal Deal is NOW £2.50! What a joke!

Very sardonic chrislash...and it's 'immerse' :P

Anyone who is offended by any of the complaints on a complaints forum seriously needs to get a life.

Everyone is going to have problems with companies. Of course there's no need for members of staff to be rude or offensive to customers, but some things are out of store staff's control. Such as Tesco Direct. This is nothing at all to do with the store. Complain to the right person and 9 times out of 10 your issue will be resolved.

Personally, I would have reported the trolley dolly to the police and initially lodged the complaint with Tesco head office rather than leaving it with the manager who was one of the culprits in the first place. That was just never gonna happen.

do tescos by law have to have cctv running outside there store i have been told they have to . security guard would not make a statement to police about an incident. so why is he a security guard. a female worker was attacked for taking down a number plate and he done nothing. has he still got his job or just been moved to another store.

I used to work for Tesco and could tell you many stories of the abuse staff get. I was once punched in the face and called a bitch because I refused to serve a drunk customer. The duty manager then came over and served the customer because he didn't want any trouble. He was a 30 year old male, at the time I was a 19 year old female - how does that work!!!!!

Tesco have also breached their contract regarding my career break. I would never work for Tesco again and am fili
ng a complaint to Head Office about this and the lies I have been receiving.

As for the staff in stores - I have just filed a police report because a group of girls from the store have just hurled threats of violence at me - and these are the kind of people Tesco wants to represent them!!!!!

Wednesday 11th Jan 2012 bouight 3 tins of Tesco lager at a reduced price of £1.12 from £2.24, as there was a can missing. When I got home I checked the receipt and found I had been charged the full amount of £2.24. I don't have time to check the receipt in the shop as I purchase over £100.00 each week. I will take them back next shopping day and see what they say.

it's not the fact the staff are rude, its the fact that Tesco are so heavy on their staff as it is, they are scared when they get it wrong or to make genuine mistakes as all staff are "personally" responsible for their work and if it is not deemed to be up to "Tesco standards" they will be pulled into an office and have the living daylights scared out of them. Tesco is no longer a company on the customers or staff's side. They don't make a profit to keep costs low, they make a profit to continue growing and ruining customers, staffs and local businesses in all areas of the country.

I work for tesco and find all the managers are bullies they are not happy unless they are making the lives of the staff hell. Two managers in my store spread a romour about me and when I complained to personnel try told me I would be disciplined for causing trouble I'm looking for another job

I stay in canary wharf , and there is a tesco express below my house ( baltimore wharf). Tesco clearly advertises that the store closes at 11pm. But whenever I go at 10:50 , the store is shut down. On one of these days , I complained to the manager and to my surprise , he himself was instigating this practice. I mentioned to them that shutting down the store everyday 10 min early is like skiving off work everyday for 10 min, he gave me a response that 'why do I always come 10:50' . I said if you advertise that the store is open till 11, then it is my right to come even at 10:59. I was asked to go complain 'whereever' I liked.
I didnt take up the matter, although I was very disgruntled at what had happened and therefore went 2 days later at 10:35. The security guard came and insulted me in front of 10 customers saying that I am not allowed in the store, to which I said 'for what - asking you to open till 11' ? He said that the manager had asked him to not let me in , to which I said that I wanted to speak to the manager. Instead of the manager I was approached by another staff , who asked me out , and then threatened me , pushed me and racially abused.

Now , not only cant I go to my local store, I was threatened , pushed and humiliated , for as simple as asking them to be working the required hours or change their advertising , so that the customers know.
