Tesco direct: Double stress points with your sofa

On 26/09/09 I ordered a sofa from Tesco direct for £398 on a buy one get one free basis. Tesco confirmed my order and I was told of a delivery date for the 30/09/09.

The delivery turned up on time, and this is where the nightmare begins. The sofas ordered were advertised as self assembly, as one was for a narrowboat this was ideal, as I was getting one free, I decided to donate it to a nursing home where my wife works. So, on the day of delivery, I dismantled the furniture from the narrowboat that we live on, and disposed of it. When the delivery arrived there were 2 sofas, one in brown NOT self assembly, so would not fit into our boat, the other was a three seater in cream!

I complained via phone to Tesco direct and they are giving me a refund. Not being a happy bunny, I went to my local Tesco store, which had re opened following refurbishment 2 weeks ago. They did not wish to know and said that they were not part of tesco direct, to which I pointed out that they were the same company, and it was in the Lichfield store that the catologue had been handed to me - still no joy, but I was told to drive to a direct store 15 miles away!

To say i am disgusted with their service is an understatement. I have informed them that I will never buy another item from them or their related company in my lifetime, I also informed them that I have every sympathy with the fellow that drove his Rolls Royce through one of their stores in sheer frustration.

I send this email, sitting on a deck chair in my boat. My wife is in tears, and I am fuming with anger.
What can be done to stop this company from treating customers in such a shoddy fashion? - I wish I owned a Rolls Royce because I know exactly what I would like to do right now!

Unfortunately, Trading Standards are taking bribes from Tesco to stop them being prosecuted or investigated. This illegal action by both Tesco and Trading Standards has allowed Tesco to CHANGE THE DATES on products AGAIN - but this time they are GETTING AWAY WITH IT!!!
You will see evidence of this when you purchase food from Tesco, especially in the instore bakery range that has sat there for at least 4 days in the Tesco on Salford precinct store! Thanks to Trading Standards law breaking, Tesco can continue to be the worlds's worst supermarket and only recieve tiny fines to make it look as if the corrupt Trading Standards are doing their job.

Agreed with the other Anonymous. Stupid on various levels.

Martin Lewis, the company screwed up so you got your money back, what's the point in marching into a store just to vent your spleen at some poor customer service assistant?

Also, crying over a sofa? Tell your missus to count herself lucky she doesn't have any real problems.

You don't like the way Tesco operate, then don't shop there! I don't because it is generally shit. However, that doesn't give you the right to go and lay into the CS Staff at your nearest store, its not their fault, they didn't organize your delivery! and crying over a sofa! oh boo hoo, did u enjoy sitting out on your deck chair when you should have been comforting your wife with her sofa trauma!

Hi Folks

I have started another anti-tesco forum, after a pretty horrendous experience myself.

http://www.tescouncovered.com/forum/

@admin apols for the double post, not spamming, just relaised the other one I replied to was a couple years old :-)

I emailed you the other day, if you get a chance and have any tips for me.. just gimme a should.

I do believe the fellow that drove his car through a store was drunk at the time...are you advocating drunk driving ? :P

Martin, ok, you're obviously a bit thick. But why do you think it has a dofferent name eg "Tesco Direct" and not just "Tesco" if it's the same company?

Te fact it has a different name, Tesco PLC might be a parent company, just like Easyjet has Easy this , that and the other. But it's not the same bloody company!

Come on, you must actually know that!!!!

And why cannot they advertise in their own stores catelogues from their partners?

I've had enough of Tesco and their Bully Boy tactics. Everyone get to Netto! Value, Choice, Service....what more could you ask for?

This would never of happened at Netto

It said Buy One Get One Free (It did not say Buy One Get An Identical One Free) Sometimes if your item is out of stock your order is substituted, you DO NOT have to accept the substitute if you DO NOT want it

and FYI TescoDirect is not Tesco. To complain about TescoDirect you need to go to a store that has a TescoDirect Desk as IT IS A SEPARATE COMPANY. TescoDirect comes from a distribution centre.

Tescos are immoral. The way they abuse animals is disgusting. there have been several TV programmes documenting their factory farming methods and They do not support freedom food like the Co-op. The Tesco standards which they adhere to are appallingly low. They take advantage of poor people who are attracted to their low prices, unfortunately this also means low standards of animal welfare.

Their treatment of humans is similarly bad. They monopolise the industry buying up land to prevent competitors building on it, littering the street with plastic bags, one of which made me fall over and when I complained as I had broken a bottle of milk they never even apologised although they did replace the milk only because I made them. Their customer service staff are appalling, mostly students and were extremely rude to me when I rang them. I heard as well that they do not pay sick pay meaning that staff with colds have to sit sniffing their germs all over our fresh food. They are wealthy because they are mean and ruthless and obviously have a powerful lobby with the government who will do anything for gold.

As an employee of Tesco, i am disgusted with the comments that are being fed back on this page. Tesco in no way undervalues its customers and with regard to the buy one get one free deal, yes you could have refused the incorrect product for a full refund. Tesco Direct is nothing to do with Tesco PLC and any product you order is from a distribution centre which is faced up by Tesco Direct desks in certain stores. Tesco Instore Customer Services has nothing to do with Direct orders so they will not be able to assist apart from directing you to the Direct customer services telephone line. Every single member of staff and management at Tesco works extremely hard to deliver excellent customer service and yes, unfortunately mistakes are made but we are only human after all. We are all rational and understanding people and we are a business after all, so we do have to make money to survive and pay our hundreds of thousands of staff a decent wage. If you are truly unhappy, you must always speak to the Customer Services Hotline, but i am genuinely sorry, on behalf of Tesco, that you have had this bad experience.

I am disgusted with tesco's after a store manager I used to work for later the store closed down in 2002 ---- what a shock to learn what he had done after the store closed down --- biggest shock of my life. what a truly horrible horrible store manager this person --- no appreciation for all the loyalty and hard work shown in the store --- no appreciation whatsoever --- all I am left with is hurt and hurt feelings that will truly will not fade or go away.I am very very disappointed with this particular store manager.

How Tesco treats their employees that`s a very good question. According to their spots Every Little Helps they should be the most perfect company in the world. But I need to say NO!! I`ve been employed by Tesco since June 2010 and for whole this time every day I keep asking me the same question: Why in 21st Century in UK - country of law and equality such big employer as Tesco can rip their employees without punishment for that????????????? Someone should start talking, people can`t be afraid!!!

Simply, we need to start from the beginning when they give you contract to sign and you supposed to work 36.5 hours and during 9 hours shift you will have 1.5 hours break. That`s just in your dreams!! When you do 9 hours shift you just have a chance to have 0.5 hour break and just if you lucky enough because you have so many things to do and other people have priority before you.

But the most annoying and depressing thing is when you work and you don`t know how much you earn. So many people will ask why you don`t know?? But answer is simple you signed contract with hourly wages but since they finally started paying you they didn`t even bother to send your payslips. That`s might sound funny but believe me when you are in this situation nothing seems to be funny. Depressed employee tries to phone Personnel Manager and ask where our payslips are? She seems to be surprised we haven`t received them. She doesn`t even care about them and about our physical health. So many times I`ve heard "This is not my problem" or "I don`t have a time for this conversation".

So please can someone tell me why hard-working employees are treated like that?? We do have right to get our payslips because it`s illegal behaviour not getting them. I saw on your website someone complained about P45 and missing payments. I know this fight must be hard for this person but apart from him there is so many other people who try to fight and try to implement our rights but unsuccessfully. So maybe you can help us???

If you have any questions please don`t hesitate to ask.
Best regards
Depressed

i got a call from tesco telling me that they are delivering the product on tuesday 15/02/2011 between the hours of 8-30 am and 6-30pm i waited all day and still waiting which we are now in the 4th day and i am still waiting for the product and at least one of the e mails i sent. I don`t really shop at tesco as i find it very dear and badly orgonised but i decided to give this one a chance. i have my product number at the ready anytime tesco want to go to courtand i also have the bank to vouch that they took my money including delivery.. bunch of crooks i say you are tescothe whole firm

What bugs me about Tesco is how many of these anti Tersco sites feel that they know how Tesco operates.
Well let me put you right as an ex employee of 40 years service. Tesco cares about its staff and its customers. Tesco cares about the products it sells and the people who produce it. Tesco cares about the environment and the neighbourhoods it operates in. You might just spend a little more time on the bad things in life, poverty, the Third World overseas aid instead of slagging off a Great British Company.
Print that if you dare.

I have had two unpleasant experiences with staff at our local store this week. I found that the staff were extremely unhelpful and due to thier own technical errors they informed me that it was my problem. When i suggested someone else to sort it out it didn't seem to be a problem any more as it was sorted out. If you have an experience with a member of staff who is extremely thick ask to see someone else instead of getting angry. I believe Tesco should pin point and improve its staff level of customer service, thier awareness of the products which they sell and also to follow procedures correctly. One less customer for Tesco!

Anonymous said...

And i bet you were raging with anger! and i bet you took your anger out at the staff on the customer service desk who probably had no idea about the problems you were having, if your not happy at tesco dont shop there go to sainsburys then as your measly little shop will not make much of a difference to them and they prob wouldnt give a shit!

Tesco may have reduced their profits mainly because of customer service. The first thing that a customer looks for on entering the store is.........a trolley. Today I went into their store in Camborne Cornwall and was faced with a mountain of defunct trolleys and lots of dissatisfied customers. I was informed that when the budget for trolley repairs has been spent then tough!! Is this the way to treat customers?
